The History of the Burnished Eagle Series:

The U.S. Mint introduced this special uncirculated series in 2006. From 2006 to 2008, the burnished gold coins were only available in limited four-coin sets.

Production was notably suspended in 2009 and 2010. During this time, the Mint was legally obligated to meet soaring investor demand for regular bullion coins, forcing it to divert all blank planchets to that purpose.
