A celebrated icon of early American coinage, the $10 Draped Bust Gold Eagle—known as the “Early Eagle”—was one of the foundational gold denominations authorized by the Coinage Act of 1792. Along with the silver dollar, it played a central role in establishing the young nation’s monetary framework. Its value was so significant that all other gold coins were measured in fractions or multiples of it. Although authorized in 1792, production was delayed until 1795 due to strict security and bonding protocols at the U.S. Mint. These coins were minted only upon request, resulting in extremely limited production—typically fewer than 10,000 coins per year through 1799. Early Eagles are highly sought after for their rarity, historic importance, and timeless design. More than just collectibles, they are enduring symbols of the American republic’s early ambition and enduring legacy.
